The ‘laughing effect’ has been medically proven in recent years for the prevention of treatment for diseases. Does this sound a little like magic to you?
When we are stressed, a hormone called cortisol increases in our body and decreases our immunity. However, when we laugh after being stressed, the amount of cortisol declines.
In fact, it has been reported that Natural Killer cells of the immunity response system improves in function as cortisol levels decrease. Low Natural Killer cell activity is known to decrease disease resistance* and assist immunity functioning*. Hence, laughing is a method undertaken to reduce stress and strengthen immunity response.
Laughter, would definitely be a useful tool for cognitive-behavioural intervention, especially for the health scene.
